Former Sikh Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh passes away


Former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who fueled an economic boom, died in New Delhi on Thursday at the age of 92. The death was announced in a statement by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, the hospital where he died. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also announced the death on X, in which he called Manmohan Singh “one of India’s most eminent leaders”.

The country’s first Sikh Prime Minister, who introduced free market reforms that transformed India into an economic powerhouse and sought reconciliation with Pakistan.

Manmohan Singh, a soft-spoken and intellectual former Prime Minister, was credited with far-reaching changes that saw the country emerge as an economic powerhouse capable of competing with China.
