Strongly condemns use of force on farmers’ protest at Shambhu border: Sanyukta Kisan Morcha

The Sanyukta Kisan Morcha strongly condemned the use of force against the farmers’ struggle at Shambhu border on 6 December 2024. 15 farmers were injured in the police attack. Instead of adopting the democratic method of consultation and deliberation, Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah always prefer to use police force to suppress the farmers’ struggle.
The press note issued by SKM to the media said that while condemning the repression, SKM stressed on the need for broad and comprehensive worker-farmer unity against corporate policies as well as the need for a larger issue-based unity of the farmers. SKM appealed to the farmers to be alert to the nefarious intentions and continuous attempts by the BJP-RSS alliance and corporate and communal forces to divide the farmers’ movement and also called on the farmers across the country to be ready for a continuous and massive nationwide struggle in the new year of 2025 until ours is accepted.
SKM strongly condemns the repression of farmers’ struggles in Noida and Greater Noida through illegal forms of “house arrest”, police intrusion into farmers’ homes,
detention of family members of farmer leaders, assault on women farmers by male police, imprisonment of farmers challenging the independence of the judiciary, denial of legal access and denial of bail to farmers in non-bailable offences, protests and peaceful sit-ins etc. SKM demands the President of India and the Chief Justice to ensure that the rule of law is maintained in Uttar Pradesh. SKM strongly urges the BJP-led UP state government to stop treating farmers as criminals and extremists. All farmers illegally imprisoned should be released. Action should be taken against police officers who violate the rules of law. Otherwise, the United Farmers Movement is determined to end any form of state repression in UP.
