The Supreme Court said that if the elections are stopped on the polling day, it will lead to unnecessary ‘commotion’.
There was great enthusiasm among the people to cast their votes for the Panchayat elections. A large number of people started arriving as soon as the voting started at 8 am, due to which long queues of people were formed outside the polling stations across Punjab. Along with the youth, the elderly and women also reached the polling station to vote, who exercised their right to vote.
Despite many claims of the Punjab government to conduct panchayat elections in a peaceful manner in Punjab, there have been reports of violence in many places during the panchayat elections. During the voting, firing was fired at three places in the state. Clashes took place in about a dozen districts of Punjab and stone pelting took place in some places.
