Why people lost faith in Kejriwal and AAP party?
Arvinder Kejriwal has announced that only when people declare him to be honest, then he will again enter the political fray of elections. Being in jail for nearly six months in the case of the much-discussed excise scam has taken a heavy toll on his honest image. Now whether people will give him a certificate of integrity or not, the answer to this question will be given after some time. But there is no doubt that Kejriwal by resigning has played a big political trick to gain sympathy by inflaming people’s emotions. He is quite adept at playing political tricks and has succeeded many times.
The Aam Aadmi Party emerged in 2011 from the anti-corruption movement led by prominent social worker Anna Hazare. Before that, political leaders of regional parties including BJP, Congress were accused of corruption. The people of the country were fed up and were looking for honest leaders. Capitalizing on the rise of this movement, a few high-profile individuals, including Arvind Kejriwal, formed the new Aam Aadmi Party in 2012. People wanted such a third alternative, they supported it. Arvind Kejriwal, who saw the support of the people and wanted to make himself powerful, slowly started to weed out his colleagues and secured the reins of the party in his hands. In 2013, for the first time in the Delhi Vidhan Sabha elections, he won 28 seats and Arvind Kejriwal became the Chief Minister of Delhi. Within two months he resigned and tried to show that he was neither hungry for the chair nor for the money. Their main aim is only public service and building a corruption free society. People living in the national capital believed in him and supported him and Aam Aadmi Party candidates won 67 out of 70 seats in Delhi in the elections held in 2015. After this, in the elections held in 2020, he won in 62 constituencies and seated him on the chair of the Chief Minister.
After this big victory, Arvinder Kejriwal’s eyes turned towards getting the chair of the Prime Minister of the country instead of the Chief Minister. He announced that Aam Aadmi Party would be active in Punjab and contest elections. The condition of Punjab was also similar to that of Delhi. The people here were very saddened by the bullying and corruption scandals that happened during the first Congress and Akali Dal governments. They somehow saw a third alternative. The people of Punjab stood by and formed the Aam Aadmi Party government by winning 90 seats in Punjab and Mr. Bhagwant Mann became the Chief Minister.
Kejriwal later participated in the elections in Goa and Gujarat and got his party the status of a national party. It was not a small task to get Aam Aadmi Party the status of a national party in a very short period of time compared to many decades old parties, it was a big achievement.
Wise people say that a person gets power and fame but it is difficult to maintain it. Be it a party or a government, after getting power, the leaders in it start arbitrarily and a bad trend starts to emerge. The same started happening with the Aam Aadmi Party. Excise scam came to light in Delhi, in which Aam Aadmi Party veteran leader Manish Sisodia was arrested. When the investigation started, the name of Chief Minister and party supremo Mr. Arvind Kejriwal was also associated with the scam. The party that came into existence out of the anti-corruption movement, the association of its leader with corruption was both painful and surprising. In this scam Mr. Kejriwal was arrested and sent to Tihar Jail. He applied for bail several times and made other attempts to get out of jail but failed. Finally, after about six months, the Supreme Court of the country granted him bail on the basis of conditions. The conditions were that he would not go to the office in the secretariat, would not be able to call a cabinet meeting, would not sign any file, etc.
It is also important to mention here that this was not the first Chief Minister to go to jail. Even before this, Hemant Soren, Madhu Kaura, Sibu Soren, Jai Lalitha also went to jail under various charges while being the Chief Minister, but they used to resign before going to jail. Mr. Kejriwal spent six months in jail but did not resign from the post. Perhaps the reason was that if he resigned, the responsibility of this position would have to be given to another leader, lest he be firmly established. Now, when bail was granted, the court imposed such conditions that his stay as chief minister became useless. If he will not be able to call the cabinet meeting, will not be able to sign the file and will not be able to go to the secretariat, then what will happen to the Chief Minister? Finally, he had to resign from the post under compulsion. On such an occasion, he declared Bibi Atishi as the Chief Minister, turning a blind eye to many senior and experienced leaders of the party. She is a confidante of Mr. Kejriwal and will depend on Kejriwal in every way due to her lack of experience.
The graph of Aam Aadmi Party has also come down much lower than before and the image of Mr. Arvind Kejriwal has also suffered a lot. The conditions of the country have also changed a lot, they are no longer the same. Due to the allegations of corruption leveled against the leaders of Aam Aadmi Party, now the common people have started to understand that this party has also followed the path of Congress or BJP. People’s faith is broken. Restore this faith
