Why uneasiness among employees of Punjab?
Whenever there is an election, be it Lok Sabha, Assembly or a by-election, the workers put pressure on the government of the day, put their demands to the rulers and also to the leaders of the opposition so that they can be heard. But most of the time the pattern stays there.
Thousands of employees of Punjab are dissatisfied. From the behavior of the government, they have started to feel that the government does not listen to them. Their demands are not only related to their wages or only wage errors. Their demands are also related to hiring them permanently, giving jobs to the unemployed, extra work being taken from teachers or other employees and also to the fact that the governments exploit them, only lare-lape la. They waste time and do not accept their rightful demands, which sometimes do not even cost any money.
There is extreme unemployment in the state of Punjab. Educated youth go around for degrees, there are vacancies in government offices, schools, but they do not get appointments. If they get appointments, only hundreds of youths. This increases restlessness among the youth, they run away to foreign countries. Are the announcements alone enough to satisfy the youth?
During the previous Vidhan Sabha elections by the current rulers and earlier M.P. Even during the elections, promises were made to the government employees, but even after half of the government’s tenure, these promises seem to be turning into empty promises. Of these, those who were asked to fulfill their promises in just a few days, have been subjected to lengthy office complications. Because of this there is anger among the employees. They are full of rage.
Undoubtedly, the financial condition of the Punjab government is not good. The consequence of this is that the employees of Punjab are having to pay more. Inflation increases day by day, but the employees are not getting installments of dearness allowance. This is causing financial hardship for the employees’ families. Employees are asking for installments of dearness allowance, what is wrong with it? When the government is running the government by taking loans beyond the limit, spending huge amounts of money by printing huge advertisements along with unnecessary expenses, why is the important machinery (employees) running the government not being given dearness allowance?
Employees go on strike. Employees go on strike. The electricity workers are eager to work and sit at home. The government worker is stuck. People are disturbed. It is the responsibility of the government to put people out of trouble and listen to the employees. How can the government avoid this responsibility?
A time for dialogue with employee organizations is planned. The promise to accept the demands is given, but the matter does not move forward. Is this justified in any democratic system? Hundreds of cases are pending in high courts. Hearings are held in courts. There are decisions. But the implementation of those decisions is also delayed. After all, what does the government or government bureaucracy want to show?
It is as true as a white day that when a political party is sitting in the opposition party, it makes big statements in favor of employees, farmers, workers, strongly supports their demands, “becoming a government”. And announces to accept the demands in a few days. But when the “government” becomes “big government”, everything is forgotten. Isn’t it against morality?
