But only 5 Gurdwaras, Nada Sahib Panchkula, Sis Ganj Sahib Tarawi Karnal, Kapal Mochan Sahib Yamunanagar, Dhamdhan Sahib Jind and Gurdwara Nauvin Patshahi Kaithal, etc., are income-generating and 47 historical Gurdwaras are low-income, which are in dire need of proper and proper management.
Of course, there are thousands of acres of cultivable land of historical Gurdwaras under the management of the Haryana Committee, but the Committee also faces a big challenge of getting the records of these lands and other properties from the Revenue Department. Although the bank accounts have already been registered.
Apart from this, there is a need to reconsider the land which is given on contract for agriculture, which is being said to be much less than the current contract price. For this, there is a need to take the services of special experts. These challenges are related to land and property. Apart from this, educational institutions should also be opened under the management of the Committee in Haryana. At present, there are 5 educational institutions under the committee, including one school each at Sirsa, Kaithal and Kapal Mochan Yamunanagar, while one college each at Panjokhra Sahib Ambala and Nisingh Karnal. In this regard, the committee will have to make special efforts. Apart from this, efforts will also have to be made for religious propaganda and the propagation of the Punjabi language and pressure will also have to be exerted on the Haryana government to give Punjabi the status of the second language of the state. Efforts will also have to be made to start religious programs and other major programs at the state level, so that the Sikh youth of the state can connect with Sikhism as much as possible.
The newly formed Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee will also have to work to increase medical facilities, so that the people of Haryana, especially the Sikhs, can get quality and affordable health facilities. At present, Miri-Piri Medical Hospital is being run under the leadership of a trust at Shahbad Markanda with the help of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Amritsar. A medical college was also to be built by this trust, but due to government obstacles, the medical college could not come into existence, which is also a big challenge for the new committee. Religious propagation will also be a big responsibility for the new Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee. Apart from this, there are also big issues of building new sarais in historical gurdwaras and repairing old sarais.
When did the Haryana Gurdwara Committee come into existence?
On July 11, 2014, the Congress-led government passed the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Act in the Haryana Vidhan Sabha.
The HSGMC Act, 2014 was notified by the Legal and Legislative Department of Haryana on July 14, 2014.
After this, on 6 August 2014, the legality of this act was challenged in the Supreme Court with a civil writ petition, but on 20 September 2022, the Supreme Court upheld the validity of this law and paved the way for the formation of the committee.
When the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee Act came into existence, it was opposed by the Shiromani Akali Dal and the Shiromani Gurdwara Management Committee.
The reason for this opposition was that before the enactment of this law, the Shiromani Committee Amritsar used to take care of the historical gurdwaras located in Haryana. Finally, after the Supreme Court upheld the legality, this dispute ended.
