In ancient times, the Jais of Punjab bravely faced the foreign invaders. Then, Punjabis made the most sacrifices during the freedom movement to expel the British from the country. Although many things have changed after the country became independent, the campaigns for the Jais of Punjab have not ended. Yes! It is certain that these campaigns have changed their form at different times, but the Jais of this holy land have never turned their back on the struggle. Even at the time of writing these lines, the 70-year-old Jais of Punjab, the leader of the Jais, Jagjit Singh Dallewal, MSP, and other farmers, has been on a fast unto death for 44 days to get their demands met. The health of the farmer leader Dallewal has reached a critical point and according to the doctors, any misfortune can happen at any time. Despite this, the central government has not responded to the farmers’ demands for talks, while farmer leader Dallewal has said that if the central government responds to talks with the farmer leaders, he will end his fast to death, but it seems that the central government does not care about his life and instead of talking to the farmers, the central government is showing indifference towards the farmers. Despite this, while Dallewal is adamant on his fast to death, the farmers in the farmers’ front are seen to be completely enthusiastic. The look of discontent on their faces indicates that they have now left home for a long struggle. It is not easy to leave their homes and fields and stage protests on the roads day and night, that too in the bitter cold, but the farmers of Punjab have made this possible.
It is a matter of great surprise and sorrow that farmers are being prevented from going to the capital of their own country. The way the obstacles have been erected to stop farmers from going to the capital, it seems as if the government does not consider farmers as residents of this country. History is witness that Delhi has always pushed Punjab and this time during the farmers’ movement, Delhi is pushing Punjab even harder. That is why the government of the capital Delhi, i.e. the central government, is not caring about the life of farmer leader Dallewal. After all, this capital has seen a lot of ups and downs. Sometimes wins, sometimes losses, sometimes protests, sometimes agitations. Such are the rulers here who do not seem to be affected by any agitation or campaign. At this time, the rulers of Delhi are drunk with power. The Prime Minister of the country used to say that the farmers of the country are just a phone call away from him, but neither is he seeing the farmers’ movement nor is he hearing the farmers’ voice.
The Delhi government should remember that even before this second farmers’ movement, farmers had staged a major movement, in which the farmers also won. In 2020, the farmers had fought continuously for 379 days on the streets of Delhi and got three agricultural laws back. Even though the farmers had got three agricultural laws back then and the central government had also formed a committee in July 2022 on the demand of MSP, this demand has not received any traction till date. Now the farmers are again struggling for this demand. During that struggle, more than seven hundred farmers had sacrificed their lives so that agriculture and farming could be saved. At this time, they have reached the point of sacrificing their lives to save the agriculture and farming of Punjab. Due to the continuous hunger strike, their physical condition has deteriorated greatly, many parts of their body have stopped working, but despite this, they are struggling for the rights of the farmers and they have not accepted the government’s offer. This is the history of Punjab, the people of Punjab do not accept anyone’s loyalty and are always at the forefront in sacrificing their rights.
The farmer leaders who are trying to sharpen the edge of the Kisan Morchas that have been going on on the inter-state borders for the past 11 months say that if anything happens to the farmer leader Dallewal, then the central government may not even have control over the situation. The farmers’ movement is a common cause of the people of the country, to win which now not only all the states of the country but also all the villages need to exert their full strength. The central government should give up its stubbornness and talk to the farmers and try to fulfill the demands of the farmers. The central government should read the writing on the wall and start talking to the farmers on time without waiting for the martyrdom of the farmer leader Dallewal. This is both the demand and the need of the hour. The central government is Mr. Not taking the gist of Dallewal, but to resolve the farmers’ issues, various farmer organizations need to join hands and struggle together, not separately.
