Balwant Singh, a victim of the 1984 Sikh riots, received a compensation of Rs 12 lakh on the petition of Satnam Singh Gambhir.

Satnam Singh Gambhir, East India President of All India Sikh Students Federation, said that the federation had filed a public interest litigation in the Ranchi High Court to provide justice to the families of the victims of the 1984 Sikh massacre, on which the Hon’ble High Court had constituted a commission. Sardar Balwant Singh, a resident of Hazaribagh, had gone to Jammu with his family after the 1984 massacre and had filed a petition with the commission, giving information about the damage caused in the massacre and submitting concrete documents. After a thorough investigation and assessment of the damage, the commission recommended the Deputy Commissioner of Hazaribagh to give Rs 12 lakh as compensation to Balwant Singh, a victim of the Sikh massacre.
After the Jharkhand government provided the funds, the Deputy Commissioner of Hazaribagh has transferred Rs 12 lakh to the account of Sardar Balwant Singh. In this regard, All India Sikh Students Federation President Satnam Singh Gambhir called the Deputy Commissioner of Hazaribagh and thanked him, saying that he would continue to make efforts to ensure that every victim’s family gets justice.
