Apart from Soros, 19 people including Hillary Clinton, footballer Lionel Messi and Vogue magazine editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, scientist Bill Nye, actor Michael J. Fox and Denzel Washington were included in the list of names for this award. America’s highest civilian honor is called the Presidential Medal of Freedom. This award is given to those individuals who have made significant contributions to the prosperity of America, its values, security and world peace or have done important work in the public and private sectors.
US President Joe Biden has announced this. George Soros’ son Alex Soros accepted this medal. American investor George Soros runs an organization called the Open Society Foundation. According to the White House, he was honored for his focus on global initiatives that strengthen democracy, human rights, education and social justice. Macy himself was unable to attend to receive the award. Family members of several other figures received medals on his behalf. Fannie Lou Hamer, who fought for racial justice in the US, former Defense Secretary Ashton Carter, former Attorney General Robert Francis Kennedy and businessman George W. Romney were awarded the medal posthumously. Now Elon Musk has been furious at Biden’s decision. He has called it ridiculous. Musk said that Biden’s awarding of the ‘Medal of Freedom’ to Soros is a bad joke. –
Republican leaders have also condemned the honor given to Soros. Nikki Haley has called it a slap in the face of America. Citing Biden’s past decisions, he accused him of prioritizing political agendas over national values. Donald Trump Jr. shared a video on social media in which a pizza delivery man saved five children from a burning house. He wrote that this man deserves the Presidential Medal of Freedom, not Soros.

He had said at the Munich Security Conference in Germany that India is a democratic country, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not democratic. The BJP was very angry with this statement and said that George Soros’ statement is a declaration to destroy India’s democratic process. In India, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is targeting the Congress by naming Soros. The BJP says that the Congress gets various forms of help from Soros. The BJP has been linking Soros’s stance on Kashmir as anti-national. The Soros Foundation started working in India in 1999. As of 2021, Soros’s foundation had given about Rs 3.4 crore for its India activities, which is 0.02 percent of the total funding of Rs 12,703 crore worldwide that year. George Soros is an American billionaire industrialist. In Britain, he is known as the man who ruined the Bank of England in 1992. He was born in Hungary to a Jewish family. When the Jews were being killed in Hitler’s Nazi Germany, he somehow survived. Later, he left the communist country and came to the West. He used to invest money in the stock market and from this he earned about 44 billion dollars. With this money, he established thousands of schools and built hospitals.
