Indian-American Suhas Subramaniam sworn in as MP


Indian-American Suhas Subramaniam, who was elected to the US House of Representatives in the November 2024 elections, took the oath as a member of Congress. His mother, who had flown from India to the US to attend the swearing-in ceremony, was also present on the occasion. Subramaniam took the oath as a member of Congress by placing his hands on the Bhagavad Gita. Subramaniam has won the election from the 10th district of Virginia. He is the first Indian-American and South Asian to make history by winning an election from Virginia. Prior to this, Subramaniam had worked as a policy advisor to former President Barack Obama. In 2019, he was elected to the Virginia General Assembly. He has made a significant contribution to preventing gun violence and ensuring quality education for students.
